New Organic Light Emitting Diode with Low Cost

Scientists from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have recently developed a laminated organic light-emitting diode with low manufacturing cost and high luminous efficiency. The results of the study were published in the new issue of the Journal of Applied Physics.
Light-emitting diode is a kind of semiconductor diode, which can convert electrical energy into light energy, and has been widely used in daily life. Compared with incandescent lamps, light-emitting diodes have the characteristics of low working voltage and current, good impact resistance and long life. However, light-emitting diodes are generally made of inorganic semiconductor materials such as gallium, arsenic, phosphorus, etc., and the process is complicated and the cost is relatively high. In addition, the general inorganic light-emitting diode is a point light source, is difficult to apply to a large-area and high-resolution package, and cannot be made thin.
The research team led by Ma Dongge, a researcher at the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, used carbon-based organic materials similar to plastics to make organic light-emitting diodes. The processing is relatively simple and the cost is low, and this organic light-emitting diode is a light source. A large surface light source.
The experimental results also show that this organic light-emitting diode can achieve high efficiency with only a single light-emitting layer, and does not require multiple complex light-emitting layers; the unit organic light-emitting diodes can be connected in series to achieve higher working efficiency.
In an interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters on the 14th, Ma Dongge said that the organic light-emitting diodes they developed have obvious advantages in terms of cost and light-emitting mode, and have good application prospects in lighting, display backlight and other fields.
