Principle of electrolysis
Release time:
2024-03-27
1. Electrolysis: the process of causing a redox reaction between the yin and the anode by passing current through the electrolyte solution.
2. Electrolytic cell: a device that converts electrical energy into chemical energy, also called an electrolytic cell.
(1) Name of electrode:
Anode: The electrode connected to the positive pole of the power supply (or the electrode where the anions in the solution tend to be)
Cathode: The electrode connected to the negative pole of the power supply (or the electrode where the cations in the solution tend to be)
(2) Electrode reaction:
Anode: oxidation reaction
Cathode: reduction reaction
3. Electrolysis process
The anion and cation produced by electrolyte ionization move directionally under the action of current. The cation obtains electrons at the cathode and causes reduction reaction. The anion loses electrons at the anode and causes oxidation reaction. The electrons flow into the cathode along the wire from the negative electrode of the power supply, flow out from the anode and return to the positive electrode of the power supply along the wire. Therefore, the conductive process of the electrolyte solution is the electrolytic process of the solution.
